About Cadiz and El Puerto de Santa María

 

The school is located in the commercial heart of the city, 2 minutes from the famous bullring. El Puerto de Santa María is a picturesque and lively Spanish city situated on the Costa de la Luz, 20 minutes across the bay from Cádiz.

 

The city is an important fishing port with a number of historic buildings including the Castle where Christopher Columbus stayed while planning his famous voyage to discover the New World.

There is a palm lined park, a maze of narrow bustling streets, a lively central market and a busy shopping and commercial area. It is located around the mouth of the river Guadalete. There are 22 km. of Atlantic coastline around the city, with 15 Km of beaches of fine golden sand. This coastline is known as Costa de la Luz because of the unusually clear and intense quality of the light.

 

The area is well known by Spaniards as one of the few unspoilt holiday places left on the south coast of Spain. In El Puerto you will hear only Spanish spoken, you will experience the customs, culture and cuisine of this fabulous and undiscovered part of Spain. 

 

 

The city has several museums and historic buildings.

  • Saint Marcos Castle, built on the site of a mosque, dates back to the 13th century.

A city full of history, yet young enough to have plenty of activities and a lively night life.

Cadiz is also within striking distance of Seville, Jerez de la Frontera and many of the white villages.

 

You will find extremely friendly Spaniards willing to help you in every possible way.

 

The School

The school was established in 1986. It is located in El Puerto de Santa María, "city of a hundred palaces" and home of Christopher Columbus. A city full of history, yet young enough to have plenty of activities and a lively night life. It boasts 22 km of golden sandy beaches..

The area is well known by the Spanish tourists as one of the few unspoilt holiday places left on the south coast of Spain. Other areas of Spain have been overrun by visitors from every corner of Europe, and very often Spanish customs and culture may be hard to find. In El Puerto you will hear only Spanish spoken, you will experience the customs, culture and cuisine of this fabulous and undiscovered part of Spain.

You will find extremely friendly Spaniards willing to help you in every possible way.

The staff at the school give students all the support they need in order to fully integrate them into the Spanish life and giving them at the same time an excellent tuition. All teaching staff are university graduates who have  specialised in teaching Spanish.

Courses

 About the Courses

·         Suitable for adults aged 18 and over

·         Maximum of 6-8 students

·         Suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced

·         The course books are provided by the school

·         The school provides an extensive range of supplementary classroom material

·         The programs are 2 weeks minimum

·         Option of 20, 25 or 30 classes per week

·         The school is open all year round except for Christmas

·         There are 6 free excursions/activities for per month course

·         Commercial Spanish for Companies is taught in groups and private classes

·         Lessons focus on 5 distinct language skills:

·         listening

·         reading

·         writing

·         grammar - and most importantly ......

·         speaking

 

In as little as two weeks you will master elementary Spanish and in four weeks you will get to grips with more fundamental language in order to be able to have a conversation with the locals and read the newspapers.

 

Activities

For those who would like to go on excursions or other cultural activities, these are also arranged by a local travel agent, but the cost of these are not included in the price of the program. The school normally takes its students on at least 6-8 excursions/activities during a month’s stay.

The choice of sessions depends on the availability of classes and levels and is arranged by the school.

The Puerto de Santa Maria is located 15 minutes from Cadiz Airport, 1 hour from Seville and 3 hours from Malaga.
